the story

thanks for checking out daily driver! this one-man act is always seeking out new ideas to dish out your way. sometimes good. sometimes, not-so-much...but, hey, at least i try. as far as band history is concerned, there's not much to tell, being that there is only myself at this point...oh, alright. since you're twisting my arm, i'll share my history with ya. here goes:

i was born a poor black child....no, wait...that was steve martin. my history goes a little more like this:

growing up as a kid, i always enjoyed listening to music and would find myself recording tv show theme songs (come on, you know they're not all bad...thundercats, anyone?) onto my trusty tape deck or recording whatever was playing on the radio in those days. as a kid, i didn't have any money to buy music (some things never change), so i had a massive collection of repeatedly dubbed over cassette tapes. i had rather "musically strict" parents so most of the time i would have to listen to what i recorded in privacy. i remember one instance where my dad made me record over one of my favorite cartoon theme songs because it sounded too "heavy metal" to him.

anyways, in 5th grade i picked up my first real instrument...the mighty trumpet! it was glorious. it was loud. it scared the neighbors. it...lasted all of 3 months. wow. i had too quit. my transformers were feeling neglected and i had to attend to their needs.

fast forward to the summer of '94 when i picked up the instrument i should have picked up back in 5th grade...my first guitar...ahhhh, memories. it's still the one i play to this day: sunburst '60s reissue fender telecaster. truly glorious.

fresh out of high school, i put my writer's hat on and started a band with some buddies and we went by the name of three quarter fade. ahhhh, more memories. we practiced here and there, and had our one and only show where we intrigued the pre-teens, but less-than-thrilled the adults. mission accomplished.

not too soon after,i decided to leave san francisco and move to southern california for a change of pace and to check out the music scene which was actually decent at the time.

after about 6 months of living in orange county, i got a call from my friend, justin (the lead singer in three quarter fade). he told me this manager guy who had got a hold of one of our demos was interested in us and was going to show our stuff to some heads over at TNT records in new york. i was stoked! there was talk about flying us out to the big apple for a few months to record better demos and such. i quit my dead-end $7/hr job that i had been working at for 3 months and headed back up to san francisco for a couple weeks to work on some stuff with justin and to meet with the manager guy, who repeatedly ended up being a no-show and was ignoring our calls. so, getting the point and feeling a bit defeated, i headed back to my apartment down south in need of a job and a hanky. ahhh. don't feel too bad. we kinda sucked anyway.

over the past few years, i've started new projects here and there with folks, but nothing has ever really stuck due to a lack of chemistry, other's lack of motivation, or at times, my own.

well, today i am the most focused i've ever been to reach my goal of getting out there and playing some shows in hopes of putting a smile on some kid's face, even if that kid is 35 and living in his mother's basement.
